CSULB Summer Camps

Many parents are already familiar the ever-popular 49er camp, but California State University, Long Beach offers a variety of summer camps for boys and girls of all ages and ability levels. Held throughout the summer months, campers can spend the day at CSULB to experience sports, academics, leadership and friendships.
With the variety of camps available, kids can choose to study in computer and science labs, create works of art in design buildings, compose essays and poetry in instructional labs, learn to lead a healthy life-style on athletic fields, sleep and eat in the dining halls, and even take a few campus tours. Here is an overview of the summer camps planned at CSULB. Check back soon for information about summer sports camps, too.
Cal State Long Beach 49er Camp is a physical fitness camp for children ages 5-13. Every camper receives a fitness evaluation and qualified instruction in some of the following sports: Archery, Basketball, Gymnastics, Bowling, Soccer, Softball, Hockey, Tennis, Racquetball, Golf, Volleyball, Dance, Physical Fitness, Track & Field, and daily swim lessons.
Young Artists’ Camp
The CSULB Young Artists Camp takes place in July for kids ages 9-15. The summer arts program provides training in art fundamentals, with experiences in drawing/painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics, plus campus field trips and a final gallery exhibition of the students’ work at the end.
Young Scientists’ Camp
The CSULB summer science program breaks children into groups by grade to play, study, learn age-appropriate Earth and space science topics. This year’s camp themes will be: Star Scientists, Science Rocks, Extreme Science and Crime Solvers Go Wild. The summer camp takes place for two weeks in August.
Young Writers Camp
Budding word smiths can participate in two sessions of the Young Writers’ Camp in June and July at CSULB. The summer language camp teaches writing as a process to challenge young writers to find reasons to write and to shape their ideas and experiences into meaningful written communication that is intended for a reading audience. Writers’ Workshop incorporates mini-lessons on specific content and editing strategies, time for drafting and revising, peer response, teacher conferencing, presentation of writing to the class, and publication.
Camp Nugget is a low cost summer day camp programs for children with special needs and disabilities ages 5 through 12. The camp provides activities in swimming, sports & games, fitness, relaxation, and breathing exercises. The four-week program begins in June and lasts half-days Monday through Friday.
