The Democratic Women’s Study Club of Long Beach will be hosting their 84th Annual Great American Picnic on Saturday, August 13 at noon at Wardlow Park. Each year, this event attracts a large number of elected officials and guests from Long Beach and surrounding cities.
“Our annual picnic is a great opportunity for Democrats, both men and women, from all areas, ages and backgrounds to come together to discuss like-minded issues and celebrate the work we’ve done over the past year,” said club President Herlinda Chico. “This year’s Presidential election is like none we’ve seen before. It is crucial for Democrats to come together as a unified party and this picnic is a wonderful reminder of our shared values.”
This year’s event co-hosts are: Rep. Alan Lowenthal, Rep. Janice Hahn, Sen. Ricardo Lara, Speaker Anthony Rendon, Asm. Patrick O’Donnell, Mayor Robert Garcia, Vice Mayor Rex Richardson, Councilmembers Lena Gonzalez, Jeanine Pearce, Suzie Price, Roberto Uranga and Al Austin, LBCC Trustee Vivian Malauulu, LBUSD Vice President Megan Kerr and Board Member Felton Williams, WRD Board Member John Allen, Senate candidate Warren Furutani, Democratic National Committee Member Melahat Rafiei, CA Dem Party Regional Director Sergio Carrillo, ILWU SoCal District Council, LA/OC Building Trades Council, Plumbers Local 78, Long Beach Democratic Club, Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club, Crummitt and Associates and Judicial candidate Efrain Acevedo. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be generously donated and grilled by Long Beach Firefighters, Local 372.
The Great American Picnic also serves as an opportunity to recognize an outstanding Democrat. This year we will surprise a long-time labor and party leader with a lifetime membership. Assembly Speaker Rendon will also administer the Oath of Office to club officers during a brief installation ceremony. Entry into the BBQ is $5 for non-members and free for members. The cost of the BBQ will be waived for those who join or renew their membership for $20 or have a financial hardship.
The Democratic Women’s Study Club of Long Beach is the oldest chartered Democratic Club west of the Mississippi, founded more than 80 years ago in Long Beach. For information about the picnic or the club, please contact Herlinda Chico at 562.652.5600 or at email@example.com.
