Designed By Kids, Built By Volunteers: New Playground Will Be Built in One Day
2009-05-17 · By Editor
More than 300 volunteers from Nestlé USA and Century Villages at Cabrillo, Inc., organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the Long Beach community will join forces on Wednesday, May 20 to build a new, safe playground near the Oasis Center located in Villages at Cabrillo. The new playground’s design is based on drawings provided by children who attended a Design Day event in March.
The new Long Beach playground will provide hundreds of children in the community with a safe place to play and will be the first public playground for use by any children whose families are served by Villages at Cabrillo.
The playspace is the first built by KaBOOM! and Nestlé USA, and one of more than 200 KaBOOM! will lead across the country in 2009 in an effort to provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. Nestlé USA is proud to partner with KaBOOM! as part of its effort to encourage employees to give back to their communities in numerous, meaningful ways.

Century Villages at Cabrillo, Inc.
Century Villages at Cabrillo (CVC) is a residential community established to break the cycle of homelessness. A former 26 acre US Naval housing site, CVC was established in 1997 when the Department of Defense conveyed the land under the McKinney Act for the purpose of providing transitional and permanent housing to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. Since that time, CVC has developed into a unique therapeutic residential community that provides service-enriched housing to more than 1,000 persons and is supported by a collaboration of fourteen non-profit and government agencies. Remarkably, more than 2,000 people benefit each year from the variety of life-enhancing programs and services available at CVC.
Named one of “America’s Most Admired Food Companies” in Fortune magazine for the twelfth consecutive year, Nestlé USA provides quality brands and products that bring flavor to life every day.
