On Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to the area of 7th Street and Rose Avenue in regards to a shooting that resulted in the paralysis of the male adult victim, and detectives continue to look for potential witnesses or anyone with information.

Once on scene, officers immediately began an investigation and learned there were two occupants sitting in a vehicle parked along the east curb of Rose Avenue, north of 7th Street. At that time, the victim’s vehicle was approached by a small red compact vehicle containing two suspects. The passenger of the suspect vehicle exited and fired on the occupants of the victim’s vehicle, before getting back in the vehicle and fleeing the area heading northbound on Rose Avenue.

The victim, only being identified as a 32-year-old Long Beach resident, was in the driver’s seat when he was struck in the upper body by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital and remains paralyzed as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting. The passenger in the victim’s vehicle was unharmed.

Although the victims are not gang members, investigators believe the suspects are, and the case continues to be investigated by Long Beach Police Gang detectives. Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned the victim had just left a marijuana collective on 7th street and as he returned to his vehicle, he was targeted, with robbery being a possible motive.

Witnesses describe a female Black, approximately 19 to 21-years-old, as the driver of the red compact vehicle. The passenger/shooter is described as a male Black, 25 to 29-years-old. Detectives also believe the victim encountered a third suspect as he was originally leaving the dispensary, who was operating with the two suspects. That third suspect is described as a male Black, unknown age, who was seen getting into the red compact vehicle prior to the shooting.

The suspect vehicle is described as a red Ford 90s 2-door, similar to the one pictured in the above stock photo.

Detectives have followed-up on and exhausted all leads and are asking that anyone with additional information regarding the shooting, or anyone who may be able to identify the suspect vehicle, to come forward. Individuals with information are asked to contact Gang Enforcement Detective Jerry Poole at (562) 570-7370. Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting
