Thanks to assistance from the historic Press Telegram site in downtown Long Beach, and the support of the MADhaus and Hollywood Outdoor Movies, Long Beach Cinematheque is bringing the Drive In experience back to Long Beach with a back-to-school favorite — 1986′s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
The group will host an outdoor movie presentation at Downtown Drive In on September 17. Parking starts at 6:30 p.m. and Ferris Bueller takes the screen at 8 p.m.
It’s been twenty-five years since Ferris, Sloane, and Cameron ditched school for a day of adventure in Chicago and still John Hughes’ Ferris Bueller’s Day Off remains a timeless high school favorite, in no small part due to Matthew Broderick’s breakthrough performance as the titular “righteous dude.” Featuring an equally iconic performance by Jeffrey Jones as relentless Dean Ed Rooney, with great performances by Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, and the wonderful Edie McClurg as daffy school secretary Grace, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is capped off with a fantastic 1980′s soundtrack featuring The Dream Academy, General Public, and Yello’s overnight hit “Oh Yeah.”
