Falls Are Personal: Fall Prevention and Risk Identification

Dr. Gretchen Swanson, Fall Prevention Advisor to The Heart of Ida will speak on “Falls are Personal” at the Long Beach/Lakewood Chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) on Thursday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Weingart Center, 5220 Oliva Avenue, Lakewood, California 90712.

She will discuss fall prevention efforts in Long Beach and Heart of Ida programs (including Tai Chi, Stepping On, Matter of Balance, and Safe at Home).  Everyone present will learn of their fall risk.

Dr. Swanson holds a post professional clinical doctorate in physical therapy from USC, a master’s in public health in health education and behavioral science from UCLA.  She sits on the Los Angeles Fall Prevention Coalition Steering Committee and Co-coordinates the Statewide Fall Coalition “StopFallsCalifornia.Org”.

Her portfolio consists of research and program development in the area of safety and function of older adults, and is an advisor with Heart of Ida, a non-profit that monitors the safety net of 43,000 older adults in Long Beach, California.

No reservations are necessary to HLAA and admission is free. All meetings are Captioned with CART (Communication  Access Realtime Translation), have a hearing induction loop and have assistive listening devices available.
