When officers arrived a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle appeared to be involved in an accident with the raised curb on the 7th Street on-ramp.  Officers located the driver with a motorcycle helmet on, about 50 feet below the 7th Street on-ramp.  Paramedics arrived and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.  The driver of the motorcycle is identified as a 41-yr-old male and his name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the motorcycle was driving at a high rate of speed and was unable to safely negotiate the curvature of the roadway as it approached the northbound 710 Freeway.

This is the second motorcycle fatal accident in Long Beach in less than a week.

On May 20, a Honda CVR motorcycle was on Market Street when it attempted to make a left hand turn onto Walnut Avenue and struck a Cadillac DeVille. Investigators determined that the Cadillac came to a complete stop at the intersection and then failed to yield the right-of-way, when it pulled in front of the motorcycle.
