Fatal Traffic Accident Sunday Night; Driver Arrested

On Sunday, November 14, 2010, at approximately 11:06 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Elm Avenue that resulted in the death of an adult female.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 silver Jaguar being driving by Danita Rector, a 41-year-old Long Beach resident, traveled onto the south sidewalk of Anaheim Street, and struck a woman who was sitting at the bus stop.
The victim was transported by Fire Department personnel to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. At this time, she is only being identified as a 71-year-old female resident of Long Beach, pending notification to her family.
The driver of the Jaguar, Danita Rector, was arrested for drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and is currently in custody.
