Detectives Investigating Fatal Traffic Accident Seek Additional Information On Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 8:39 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Sante Fe Avenue that resulted in the death of an adult male.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a blue Vespa and a green Toyota FJ Cruiser (SUV) were traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway shortly before the collision. The driver of the Toyota was in the process of changing lanes in order to turn into the parking lot of a business on the southeast corner of the intersection. At this point the Vespa, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, collided with the Toyota.

Officers in the area quickly arrived on the scene and rendered aid to the man until paramedics came and transported him to a local hospital where he was was listed in critical condition. He was pronounced deceased several hours later and has been identified as Zachary Kurzawinski, an 18-year-old resident of Hawthorne.

The driver of the Toyota, a 43-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was uninjured. He was interviewed and released at the scene, and the case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office pending the conclusion of the investigation.
