2013-08-02 · By Editor
Today, August 2nd at 1:00pm, the Long Beach Fire Department will celebrate the graduation of 25 new Ambulance Operators. These new EMT’s have completed a 2 week Training Academy and will soon be riding alongside LBFD firefighters on 911 response calls.
A position as a LBFD Ambulance Operator (AO) is often the first step to becoming a sworn full time firefighter with Long Beach City. These AO’s live in Long Beach Fire Stations working with firefighters to learn the roles and responsibilities needed for a career in emergency medical services. This hands-on experience is a great way to learn skills and gain experience, while building a resume. The primary function of these new AO’s is to transport patients with minor to moderate injuries (non-life threatening) in a Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance. Firefighter / Paramedics handle the more advanced life threatening (ALS) responses.
The informal graduation and ceremony will be held at the Long Beach Fire Training Center, located at 2249 Argonne Ave. New AO’s will be presented with their badges.
Family and friends are invited. Light refreshments will be served.
