First Fridays Celebrates Art-Ober Tonight in Bixby Knolls

Every month we celebrate the arts, but in October First Fridays is going BIG! Art-Ober honors those creative souls painting, sculpting, and strumming to their own beat.

Enjoy: Live art and interactive art activities, local band MOVE will perform Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety in front of the BKBIA office; pop-up art galleries; photo ops; indie rock; politicos; break dancers; goats and chickens; chalk zones; live sculptures; the Knolls Ranger’s 132nd birthday party at Oh Very Young; free books; gift items; antiques; the Big Red Bus; and plenty of the unexpected.

Special features:

  • Indie Rock showcase at the platforms of 3939 Atlantic Avenue featuring Bearcoon and Black Bear and the Cheyenne Autumn Band.
  • The digital community mural, The Great Wall of Long Beach. Tag #artslb on Instagram to display your favorite shots of the night on the mural.
  • Toaster Music and the Arts Council for Long Beach will host the arts month kick off reception in the Jones Gallery of Expo Arts Center.
  • Preview of the Long Beach Open Studio Tour at Expo Arts Center

7th District Councilmember James Johnson’s “First Books at First Fridays” at the Dana Branch Library will features guest readers JoRae Zuckerman and Marie Treadwell starting at 5:30pm.

8th District Councilmember Al Austin’s “Council on Your Corner” will be set up at Atlantic & Carson to meet and greet attendees.

Stop by Bella Cosa (3803 Atlantic) from 6:30pm – 8:00pm to find all the information about First Fridays, business info, and restaurant recommendations.

When the businesses start to close, “First Fridays After Hours” begins. Nino’s Italian Restaurant, The Factory, Willmore, and EJ Malloy’s go late into the night with food, drinks, and music. Why go home early? Stay out late and continue the energy.

Dine on Art-Lantic Avenue at one of our tasty restaurants then grab the Big Red Bus that will transport you venue to venue from designated stops at the participating businesses.
