Possessed by Paul James will play Alex’s Bar with Sean & Zander and Blind John Pope on Friday, June 27 from 8pm–2am.

Hillgrass Bluebilly Southern California to host a Folk & Roots Music Showcase featuring touring headliner Texas-based Multi-Instrumentalist and one-man-band, Possessed By Paul James plus co-headliner the fiery punk rock “Legendary Duo” turned “West Coast Roots”, Sean Wheeler & Zander Schloss and more.

Possessed By Paul James aka Konrad Wert is a teacher by day (recently receiving the award for Teacher of the Year” at the school at which he teaches) and a musician by night. He has made a name for himself performing all over the world providing a musical experience that some consider life changing. He connects with the audience and you might say feeds off the energy in the room. You’ll always catch him saying “we performed great tonight” as he includes the audience as part of the performance. It’s truly something to be experienced. His interview on NPR can be heard here where he touches on this subject: .

From Saving Country Music: “Fans of singer/songwriter and one man band Possessed By Paul James my be surprised to find out that playing music is not his only passion. Though he somehow finds the time to make appearances all over the US and Europe throughout the year, down in the Texas Hill Country he’s in charge of an elementary school special education classroom, teaching children with intellectual disabilities. And you may think that with juggling so many responsibilities between music and work that he wouldn’t have the energy or the time to excel at either one. But Possessed by Paul James is not your average musician, or teacher.

Co-Headliners Sean Wheeler & Zander Schloss have been collectively playing punk rock music for 50 years. Between the two, their resumes include playing in The Circle Jerks, Joe Strummer’s band, Throwrag, The Weirdos, and countless other well known punk outfits but they can be considered recent converts (as far as the music they play goes) to the revival of the roots and folk music scene. “You’d expect a rambunctious sound emanating from the Legendary Duo, but you’d be wrong.”

As it states on their website, The twosome plays a hybrid of folk, country, pop, ragtime, bluegrass and gospel that includes all the frenzied energy and spirit of the duo’s aforementioned bands, but is executed with a soulful dash of Americana charm not often heard west of the Mississippi.

Also on the bill are Los Angeles favorite Country-Folk Noir act, RT N’ the 44’s, and Long Beach-based folk outfit, Blind John Pope.Additionally, Long Beach Folk Revival Festival will have a presence at the showcase as the remaining lineup for the 2014 festival is to be released this night. Long Beach Folk Revival Festival will offer sampler cd’s as giveaways featuring the artists performing at the festival (Three of the performers of the night were on the 2013 lineup). Alex’s Bar will be the place to be on June 27th. With the dark and comfortable yet punk rock atmosphere of Alex’s Bar, great roots music, and great fans, this showcase is destined to be an unforgettable night. Fans are encouraged to purchase discounted pre-sale tickets in advance as space is limited.

The show will take place at Alex’s Bar 2913 E. Anaheim St. in Long Beach on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 8pm-2am. Tickets cost $12 and are available at the door or online at
