Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach hosted its 7th Annual NICU Reunion and 2nd Annual Pediatric Heart Surgery Reunion to bring together former patients, their families and the care teams who helped them recover during their hospital stay, for a day of fun and celebration. Both reunions featured a live bubble show, beach ball games, arts & crafts sessions, pet therapy dogs, face painting and Millie the Dolphin; Miller Children’s mascot; to celebrate the NICU graduates and the pediatric heart surgery patients.
“Taking the time to bring back all of our NICU graduates and our Pediatric Heart Surgery patients is important to Miller Children’s because it brings all of us together as a family,” says Rita Goshert, manager, Child Life Program, Miller Children’s. “It also is a safe and lighthearted environment where gratitude can be expressed among familiar faces that endured various health conditions, but are now living healthier lives.”
The hospital’s auditorium was entirely transformed to mimic a beach paradise for the event’s guests who quickly got dressed for the occasion by wearing costumes.
Volunteers made patients feel especially welcome as they participated in play time by jumping on the trampoline, playing luau limbo and other beach-themed games.
The hospital’s sponsors for the 7th Annual NICU Reunion and 2nd Annual Pediatric Heart Surgery Reunion included the Aquarium of the Pacific, The Painted Turtle, Kohl’s, Creative Parties for Kids, Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary, Make a Wish Foundation and countless volunteers who all made these special events possible.
