Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT) invite the public to a free, 90-minute “Joy to the World” Christmas concert at 5 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 14 at Bay Shore Church, 5100 E. The Toledo @ Granada Ave. in Belmont Shore. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and all seats are general admission.
All ages and all sizes of groups are welcome. Rudd’s Long Beach Turkey Trot is paying for the performance, so that guests can enjoy the event for free. The professional talent is provided by the Southern California Brass Consortium. Guests can just show up, or RSVP on Facebook.
Joining Rudd for the host committee for the concert are: Congressman Lowenthal, Assemblyman O’Donnell, Supervisor Knabe, Mayor Garcia, Vice Mayor Lowenthal, every seated councilmember, Chief Luna, Auditor Doud, and more than 30 other influential Long Beach residents.
Organizers are asking concert attendees to bring peanut butter, breakfast cereal, boxes of macaroni and cheese, and/or canned fruit that will be donated to the Long Beach AIDS Food Store food bank, or toys and treats for shelter dogs/cats for CAT’s Operation Santa Paws.
Rudd says, “I’ve always wanted to give the community a BIG, amazing, free Christmas Concert, and here it is! Twenty-six professional instrumentalists will make this a holiday event to remember. And, for just $5, guests are invited to the optional tasting reception for the Long Beach Christmas Cookie Contest immediately following the concert, and they can meet the performers there.”
Concertgoers are also invited to a $5 post-performance reception in the church’s fellowship hall to meet the performers. Refreshments will be served by Gelson’s, the Community Action Team and Teen/Miss/Mrs. Long Beach and Southern California Cities. The tasting reception will feature the entries from the Long Beach Christmas Cookie Contest. The cookies will be judged during the concert by Los Angeles Times Food Editor Russ Parsons, Miss Long Beach, Miss Southern California Cities, and Santa Claus.
Rudd is looking for add’l person(s) or organizations to bring plates of cookies, brownies, and cans of cold sodas and bottles of water for the reception. Please contact Justin@JustinRudd.com and leave your goodies in the reception hall at the church just before the concert.
