The sport of lawn bowls, also called lawn bowling, is one of the oldest in the world. Lawn bowls is a game of skill that can be played both recreationally and competitively at any age. This niche sport has a passionate following in the U.S. with health benefits similar to yoga.
Lawn Bowls is played with asymmetrical balls called “bowls” that always curve when you roll them. The object of the game is to earn points by completing a set of “ends” (similar to an inning in baseball) and getting your bowls closer to the “jack” than your opponent. The team closest to the jack wins points. The team with the most points after all ends have been played wins the match.
Men and women are invited to try their skill at this sport, by visiting the Long Beach Lawn Bowling Open House on May 8 between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Parking is free, and attendees are encouraged to wear flat-soled shoes or sandals. All equipment will be provided without charge. For those that can’t make it to the Long Bowling Open House, the Long Beach Lawn Bowling Club is also open to the public and gives free lessons on Sunday at noon.
