Want more trees? Free workshop helps residents organize plantings

Long Beach residents are invited to learn about street trees in their neighborhood at a “Got Trees?” workshop on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Neighborhood Resource Center, 425 Atlantic Ave.
Panelists include Jerry Rowland from the City of Long Beach, Department of Public Works, Jim Osgood from the City of Long Beach, Neighborhood Services Bureau and John Nimmons from the Long Beach Unified School District.
Participants will learn:
- What tree planting resources are available
- What types of trees are appropriate for a site
- How to get permission to plant trees from the agency that controls a public property site
- How to apply for grants
- How to plant trees
- How to become a volunteer at future tree plantings
This free workshop will be presented in English with Spanish and Khmer translation available. Free parking is available behind the building and on the street. To RSVP or for more information, call 562.570.1010.
