4th-street-parking-dayJoin us on 4th Street to celebrate the annual global Park(ing) Day! On Friday, September 17 from Noon – 4pm we’ll be transforming the ‘Edsel Park’ parking lot at 4th and Cherry Streets into a garden setting with fresh veggies and plants for sale, entertainment and lounge-y benches where you can chill for a bit.

The mission of PARK(ing) Day—conceived and created in 2005 by San Francisco art and design studio, Rebar—is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!

{open} bookstore [2226 E. 4th Street], will also participate in Park(ing) Day, creating an outside reading room by converting a parking space in front of the store into a lush park setting.

Also, check out an introduction of our “Vision of 4th Street,” a visual plan-in-da-works to widen the sidewalks on 4th Street between Junipero and Cherry with the intention of creating a park-like setting for the community, which lacks sufficient green space.
