“Real isn’t how you are made. It’s a thing that happens when a child loves you for a long time.” The wise words of Skin Horse remind us of the power of love and the magic of childhood. Local youth, ages 5-18, bring the story to life at the University Theater on the CSULB campus for six performances, January 15-23.

This version by Bethany Price with music and lyrics by Erik Przytulski captures the spirit, story and time period of Margery Williams’ beautiful tale. Great care was taken to expand the story into a musical theater work that includes the boy and his family, the toys including wise Skin Horse and lots of wild rabbits while staying true to the style, essence and powerful themes found in the original book. With beautiful melodies and lyrics inspired by the original story, this show will have you singing all the way home!

“Great plays start with great stories and this one connects emotionally with both children and adults,” said Elaine Zofrea, show director and artistic director of GO-FAME. “The cast has had a wonderful time learning to recreate a child’s world in 1922. I know everyone will love watching our performers bring the toys to life.”

The Velveteen Rabbit is recommended for ages four and up. Show times are 2:00PM and 7:00PM on Saturdays, January 15 and 22, and 2:00PM on Sundays, January 16 and 23. The show is approximately 90 minutes long with one intermission. Seats are reserved and tickets ($15) may be purchased online at www.GO-FAME.org or at the theater box office 30 minutes prior to show time. As an added treat, a Teddy Bear Tea Party will be held in the patio area outside the theater. Come and enjoy tea (or lemonade) and a sweet with your special toy friend.
