GoodwillSOLAC Joins Other Area Goodwill’s to Celebrate Disability Awareness Month

goodwill-california Goodwill, Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County (GoodwillSOLAC), in concert with Goodwill of Orange County, Goodwill Industries of Southern California, Goodwill Industries of San Diego County and Goodwill Industries of South Central California will be hosting a variety of public awareness events throughout Southern California to commemorate National Disability Awareness Month.

GoodwillSOLAC, in keeping with its mission of transforming lives through the power of work, will host a Positive Recruitment Job Fair for job seekers with disabilities and for Veterans. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 20th from 9 am – 12 pm, in the Social Hall of The Villages at Cabrillo, 2001 River Lane, Long Beach, 90810. Over 60 job seekers and 8 employers are expected to take part in this event.

“People with disabilities bring to the table unique skills and talents that add to the diversity and vitality of a workplace,” said Janet McCarthy-Wilson, president and CEO of GoodwillSOLAC. “Goodwill commemorates the anniversary of Disability Awareness Month by continuing to help our friends and neighbors with disabilities build their careers and improve their lives,” said McCarthy-Wilson. “We must look past a person’s disability and remember that each person is an individual capable of making a positive contribution to his or her community.”

Goodwill of Orange County, Santa Ana, is sponsoring a community wide Disability Resource Fair; Goodwill of Southern California, Los Angeles, is hosting a Disability Benefits & Resource Fair in conjunction with the California Department of Rehabilitation and the Social Security Administration; Goodwill Industries of San Diego County will host a Disability Resource Fair and Employment Recruitment event; and, Goodwill Industries of South Central California, Bakersfield will sponsor a “Job Connect” for job seekers with disabilities.

It is anticipated hundreds of individuals throughout Southern California will benefit from these events. Other partners include, The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., California State University, Long Beach, and U.S. Vets.
