grape-expectationsTickets available for the Long Beach Public Library gala event, Grape Expectations, which takes place at the Museum of Latin American Art on Sunday, June 28, 2009 and includes a five-course gourmet dinner. Tickets are $175 per person, and $2000 for a Chardonnay Sponsorship, which includes a table for ten people. VIP “Wine Taster” tickets are available for $250, and include special recognition and a tour of the art gallery prior to the event.

Surrounded by the 15,000 sq. foot Sculpture Garden’s tranquil desert landscaping, fountains and monumental Latin American art pieces, Grape Expectations will begin with aperitifs and hors d’oeuvres, while guests can participate in a silent auction filled with literature, antiques, art, jewelry, sports tickets, and more! Later in the evening, a live auction will feature travel and wine & dine adventures. Auctioneer Randy Gordon, President of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, is expected to lure even the most reluctant bidder into the excitement of the frenzied bidding!

Noted local wine expert Randy Kemner, owner of The Wine Country, will introduce each expertly selected wine, specially chosen to compliment each of the five delicious courses made by Sofia Riley of TGIS Catering. Grape Expectations attendees will enjoy a 5-course meal of:

  • Grilled corn and crab chowder
  • Mediterranean tower salad
  • Tender breast of chicken stuffed with prosciutto, spinach and sundried tomatoes served over parmesan risotto
  • Venezuelan braised beef slow cooked with cinnamon & red wine, served over roasted garlic mashed potatoes
  • Jack Daniels chocolate cake served with bananas foster and vanilla bean ece cream

This year the Foundation will honor Diane Jacobus and her daughter, Dr. Nancy Kimber with the coveted Durnin Family Award, which celebrates long-term support, both personally and financially, of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation. The Ackerman Family will receive the Library Leadership Award for their long-term partnership with the Foundation.

The nonprofit Long Beach Public Library Foundation works to supplement and support the efforts of the Long Beach Public Library. The proceeds from this event will support Long Beach Public Library foundation and library programs including the Family Learning Centers located at each of the city’s 12 libraries. Usage of the libraries continues to increase dramatically as more and more people are relying on the free services and resources the library has to offer during these tough economic times.

For further information, or to purchase a ticket for Grape Expectations, please call the Library Foundation at (562) 628-2441.

Even if you don’t attend the event, you can still support the library by taking part in the Grape Expectations auction online. An online auction will take place after the event from July 7th-11th. One of the best things about participating is what you get when you give — from autographed books, to once-in-a-lifetime experiences!

Grape Expectations 2009 helps the Long Beach Public Library Foundation raise money to support the twelve libraries in Long Beach with supplemental literacy programs including the Family Learning Centers and Raising A Reader.
