Residents are invited to participate in the Kick-Off of the “Greener Good Farmer’s Market.” This is the first project of the Kaiser Permanente HEAL Zone Initiative, in collaboration with the Coalition For A Healthy North Long Beach, Councilmember Steven Neal, and managed by Greener Good Farmer’s Markets.
Greener Good Farmer’s Markets, led by Jorge Rivera, has planned an exciting kick-off event, featuring artists, live music, local produce and hot food vendors, as well as arts and crafts.
The Coalition for a Healthy North Long Beach, through the Kaiser HEAL Zone Initiative, provided promotional materials, while the Office of Councilmember Steven Neal assisted with activating a vacant lot for a more desirable community land use.
The market will kick off Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. at 609 E. Artesia Boulevard (Corner of Atlantic Avenue & Artesia Boulevard), and continue on a weekly basis every following Wednesday, featuring fresh fruit, vegetables, hot food, and more available for purchase. The market also accepts EBT, credit, debit, and cash as forms of payment.
“I’m looking forward to working with Greener Good to offer more access to fresh food for our residents,” said Councilmember Steven Neal. “This project activates a blighted, empty lot and transforms it to a space the community will come to love.”
“I’m excited to be a part of such a historic project, and glad that more residents will have access to fresh produce,” said Ron Arias, Director Department of Health and Human Services, City of Long Beach.
“Greener Good is expanding to North Long Beach, to share the benefits of healthy eating. I’m glad to have a new partnership with Councilmember Neal and the Coalition for a Healthy North Long Beach,” said Jorge Rivera, Manager, Greener Good Farmer’s Markets.
