2012-05-04 · By Editor
You could pay more than $100 to take your family on a harbor cruise this summer, or you could pack up the kids for a free, educational ride on the water. That’s right — free. The Port of Long Beach invites locals to come discover the harbor with a free narrated tour. Experience the sights and sounds of a major international seaport close-up. All it takes is a reservation.
Tours are offered each year May through October. Reservations open at 8 a.m. the first Monday in May, for June tours. Go to www.polb.com/porttours to see tour dates and make a reservation online or call (562) 283-7700.
In 2012, the Port’s tour program added a special “sunset cruise” each month, capturing the beautiful Long Beach harbor at evening time.
Check out this video of previous harbor tours for a sneak peek of what to expect when you go.
Online reservations open up at 8 a.m. on the first working Monday of each month for tours the following month. Seating is limited and spaces go fast, so reserve early. Click here to go to the reservation page.
The Port of Long Beach, the second busiest seaport in the United States, is a hub of international commerce with massive freight ships, powerful tugboats and soaring cranes. Visitors can see it all from the water on a free 90-minute tour To see the latest on the harbor tours and other Port activities, follow the Port on Facebook or Twitter.
