Small and large businesses are recognized for green business practices that promote sustainability as a business strategy and for implementing actions that improve the environment, increase efficiency and conservation, and save money in six sustainability categories.

To be considered for recognition under the Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program, a Long Beach business must demonstrate green business practices in each of the following areas: Waste Reduction & Recycling, Alternative Transportation, Green Purchasing, Water Conservation & Pollution Prevention, Energy Efficiency & Conservation and Staff Training & Public Awareness.

One such business, Harding Construction & Sustainable Solutions, was recently selected for the award as a residential general contractor and expert in green remodeling by the Long Beach Office of Sustainability and Sustainable City Commission. Wes Harding, President of Harding Construction & Sustainable Solutions, said, “I am honored to receive the award and commend Long Beach for promoting green business and creating awareness for the environment.”

“Sustainability is a business strategy that has staying power because it can increase worker productivity, can improve a company’s public image and can save companies money — none of which go out of style,” Larry Rich, Long Beach Office of Sustainability, said. The Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program encourages businesses to take responsibility for positively contributing to a greener Long Beach.
