Hertzog Eye Care

Last month, just shy of celebrating their 85th anniversary, Hertzog Eye Care relocated to the “right site,” only two miles southeast of their current location.

The 6,700-square-foot building at 5094 Los Coyotes Diagonal on the east side of Long Beach boasts a state-of-the-art, full-service eye center, as well as an expanded and beautifully appointed optical retail space. Completely renovated on the interior, its roomy and relaxing design includes 10 exam rooms and a spacious and light-filled lobby. The already generous parking area has been enlarged and is surrounded by environmentally conscious landscaping.

Hertzog Eye Care is led by fourth-generation physician and eye surgeon, Leif M. Hertzog, MD, who’s on the leading edge of eye surgery, in particular cataract removal and the placement of premium intraocular lenses, which may reduce or even eliminate a person’s dependence on glasses. Dr. Hertzog is very experienced in the placement of both ReSTOR and Crystalens implants, improving both distance and near vision. Toric lenses, which are surgically implanted to eliminate astigmatism are also offered. He also performs the well-known LASIK procedure to rid patients of glasses and contact lenses. Dr. Hertzog serves as a clinical instructor for the USC Department of Ophthalmology, teaching the latest surgical techniques to residents and is active in the Rotary Club of Long Beach.

“As a family-owned and operated business, it’s important to me to continue the traditions of treating each patient on an individual basis with cutting-edge technology, as well as employing the highest ethical standards in the medical industry. By moving the practice, our patients will enjoy a more comfortable and modern building that will grow with us even into the next generation,” explained Dr. Hertzog. Fifth-generation eye surgeon, Hans Dieter Hertzog, MD, is expected to join the practice in two years after completing his residency at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute – USC Department of Ophthalmology.
