Cool cars from throughout the racing world will be featured in a new Speed Expo at the Fourth Annual Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Car Show.
The Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Car Show is free to the public and takes place Saturday, July 11th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Atlantic Avenue between Carson Street and San Antonio Drive in Long Beach.
This year’s Dragster Expo and Car Show will feature a new Speed Expo, highlighting dozens of classic racing vehicles from all venues of racing. Among those vehicles featured will be the Beach City Chevrolet Corvette funny car, an exact replica of the famous candy apple red topless Corvette that was the first Chevrolet funny car to top 200 miles per hour in 1969. The former Long Beach car dealer, Beach City Chevrolet was the sponsor of the original car. The Speed Expo will also feature vintage Top Fuel dragsters, Porsche racers, funny cars and power boats.
The Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Classic Car Show also includes more than 150 classic and show cars. Live music will be provided throughout the day by local artists including Party Jones, MP Triple J and Michelle Mangione.
The street scene will also feature photo opportunities with the Firestone Indy Racing Car, a mechanical bull ride, videos of classic races at the old Lions’ Drag Strip, kids’ activities including a pinewood derby and 25-foot long “Blu Track” for racing die cast toy cars, retail and food booths and a beer garden.
The event is produced by the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association in cooperation with the office of Long Beach Councilwoman Rae Gabelich. A portion of the net proceeds from the event will benefit the Long Beach Special Olympics program.
