It’s Not Too Late for Businesses to Hire-A-Youth Through LB Summer Work Program

The Hire-A-Youth program matches job-ready youth with local employers. Employers can still participate in the 2011 program, which is offered and supported by the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network.
“I would encourage other businesses to participate,” said Vicki Arreguin, Director of Sales at Hotel Current in Long Beach. The program has been good for our businesses bottom line and we are able to provide opportunities for our local youth to gain real world work experience.”
Hotel Current in Long Beach is just one of the many businesses participating in the 2011 Hire-A-Youth program.
Last year, more than 285 employers benefited from 209,000 hours of subsidized employment by more than 1,000 youth, thanks to the Pacific Gateway’s Summer Youth Employment Training and Hire-A-Youth Programs. Youth provided extra hands during tight times, helping businesses save money, by performing such tasks as general office work, customer service, janitorial, food service and a variety of other job duties.
This year, there is still time for businesses to reap the benefits by providing temporary work sites for both subsidized and unsubsidized employment opportunities. Youth aged 16-24 are carefully screened, trained and ready to work. Employers throughout the region who are interested in participating in the Hire-A-Youth program can call contact Susan Gainey at 562.570.3711 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit www.YourNextHire.biz.
