Councilmember Robert Garcia, along with community organizations Centro Cha and Centro Shalom, will host the Tenth Annual Cesar Chavez Day Celebration at Cesar Chavez Park, 401 Golden Avenue, Thursday March 31 from 3pm to 7pm.
The event will kick-off with the dedication of the Jenny Oropeza Community Center, which was named for the late State Senator and former Long Beach City Councilmember, who died last year.
At 3pm, the new Jenny Oropeza Center Signage will be unveiled, with remarks by Senator Oropeza’s husband, Tom Mulllins.
“We are looking forward to honoring the great work of Senator Oropeza, and everything she did to build this park when she was on the Long Beach City Council,” said Garcia.
The festivities include music, performances, food, information tables, and activities for children and families. The event is free and open to the public.
“It’s so important that we remember and honor the struggles of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers,” said Jessica Quintana of Centro Cha. “That struggle continues for working people today, and this is one day to remember that.”
