Fourteen Long Beach Job Corps students had the opportunity of their lives on Saturday! Dressed in their best attire, students were treated to an afternoon of insight and inspiration.

Students attended the Pre-Grammy Celebration, which included a brunch, a live interview and private concert by Janelle Monae at the Clive Davis Theatre at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. The event was sponsored by Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry, the Recording Academy, and the Grammy Museum.

According to Yesenia Cardenas, Social Development Director at Long Beach Job Corps, “This was a great opportunity for our students to learn from a successful artist such as Janelle Monae, who is a true American success story. Her words inspired our youth to follow their dreams and work extremely hard to network and make opportunities happen. She took her future and talent in her hands and was determined to make a name for herself. Our youth learned that you can’t sit around and wait to be discovered, you have to find your way and make it happen.”

This opportunity for the students to attend the Pre-Grammy Celebration arose through collaboration between the Long Beach Job Corps and the Long Beach Community Action Partnership. The appreciative students won’t soon forget their afternoon and are still talking about their experiences. They plan to make a collage with photos of the event.
