The Concert Jazz Orchestra at California State University, Long Beach and the vocal jazz ensemble Pacific Standard Time (PST) each captured a first-place win at the 5th annual “Next Generation Festival” which was hosted by the Monterey Jazz Festival this past April to showcase the best emerging talent in jazz.
As a result of the prestigious awards, both groups will perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival, held September 18-20, an event that has led the world in jazz education since 1958. As the top university ensembles this year, both groups received a trophy, a guaranteed performance slot on one of the festivals eight stages, and a check for $1,000.
This year, the CSULB Jazz at the Beach program has offered a limited number of friends, family, supporters, jazz lovers and alumni an opportunity to journey with them to this legendary festival. There are still a few seats on the bus remaining. Interested jazz fans should call Bethany Price at (562) 985-4326 or e-mail email@example.com for additional information, or visit www.csulb.edu/coleconservatory.
