Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, along with the Long Beach Ministers Alliance, and others will host the Annual Juneteenth Celebration, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park on Saturday, June 18th.

Juneteenth is the celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. “I am inviting everyone to join me for this fun loving celebration. Let this joyous occasion remind us that together we can overcome any obstacle,” said Councilman Dee Andrews.

This year’s theme “A Family Reunion,” will showcase performances by local youth choirs and entertainers. Included at this year’s event is the Annual 6th District Domino Tournament, an “Old School Dance Contest”, and a good ole fashion community BBQ, with free hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by the Long Beach Fire Fighters Local 372 and the Long Beach Police Officers Association. You may bring additional food if you desire.

The Annual Juneteenth Celebration, is Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 11:00 am – 2:30 pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach, 90806.

As a reminder, the celebration is an open-air festival, so bring your own chairs and blankets for seating. There will be live musical performances and a Health Pavilion, sponsored by St. Mary Medical Center, which includes free various health screenings. Kids can enjoy a spectacular children’s area with water games, jumpers and much more. There’s something for everyone at this year’s celebration!
