2009-12-31 · By Editor
Does your child like to break out in song? The Whaley Park Kids Choirs are looking for new members. The kids choir is a great opportunity for children who love music to make new friends and have some fun.
There are two separate choirs (ages 5-8 or 9-13) with rehearsals to teach kids how to sing as an ensemble, and develop basic skills in harmony and musicianship.
The choir for ages 5-8 is directed by Abby Bolin, a graduate of the California State University Long Beach Music Department. Abby has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Sistine Chapel, and also directs the kids music program at Grace Presbyterian Church. Children ages 5 to 8 can join for $30 for the six-week class, plus a $5 materials fee at the first class.
The 9-13 year olds choir is directed by Dalyn Sale-Whaley, also a graduate of the California State University Long Beach Music Department, where, as part of the CSULB Chamber Choir, she performed in Venice, Italy, at Carnegie Hall and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Dalyn currently directs KidSingers – who have performed on Good Morning America, at Disneyland, the Nixon Library and Angel’s Stadium. For kids ages 9 through 13, the cost is $45, plus a $5 materials fee at the first class.
Choir rehearsals take place in Whaley Park, 5620 Atherton Road in Long Beach. The choir season begins January 8 and concludes with a concert on February 19.
Rehearsals take place on Fridays at the following times:
- ages 5-8 from 4-4:30 p.m.
- ages 9-13 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Signups are on-going, but space is limited. For further details about the Whaley Park Kids Choirs call (562) 570-1710, or to register, call (562) 570-3111. For information about other classes through the Long Beach Parks and Recreation department go online to www.LBParks.org.
