Long Beach Reading Club

Can you dig it? “Dig into Reading” is the theme of Summer Reading Club at Long Beach Public Library. Readers of all ages can dig into great books and win prizes along the way, including a Kindle Fire. In addition, there will be weekly prizes and drawings provided by the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.

“Research shows that children who read, especially for fun, during the summer are much better equipped to learn when they go back to school,” said Mayor Bob Foster.

Online pre-registration is available until July 2, when people can register in person at any Long Beach Public Library. Youth who sign up at their neighborhood library receive a free reading folder to keep track of titles they read. Even those learning to read can participate with the help of their parents or caregivers.

“We want our readers to post reviews of their favorite books and share on Facebook online by using the free ‘Go Long Beach Public Library’ mobile app,” said Glenda Williams, Director of Library Services.

Visit www.lbpl.org, call 562.570.7500 or go to any of the Library’s 12 locations to learn more about the Summer Reading Club, including free special events featuring Musical Theater West, El Dorado Nature Center and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra Petting Zoo.
