It started out as kind of a joke, a group of mom’s wondering if their kids could eat for free, every night of the week, in Long Beach and the surrounding areas. And it became a mission really…a small one, but a mission nonetheless, to find the restaurants in our area that have the option of a kids-eat-free night!

As with most anything these days, you may want to give these places a call first to make sure the deal is still going strong, but I have managed to find a place a night that you and the kids can dine! Make sure to read the fine print here too, there are a handful of these restaurants that kids-eat-free every night!  So sit back, relax and let my hunting pay off for your family!

Sunday Night:

La Strada. This neighborhood Italian on 2nd street in Belmont Shore, is great for people watching and on Sunday from 4 p.m. to close, with any purchase of an adult entree, your child will receive a child’s entree! La Strada is located at 4716 E. 2nd Street. For more information call them at (562)433-8100 or check out their website: La Strada

Monday Night:

Johnny Reb’s.  Who doesn’t love ribs? Johnny Reb’s is an institution in Long Beach, full of awesome.  From the peanuts to the desserts, this restaurant wins locals over. Be prepared to wait most any night, but Monday’s (and Tuesday’s) after 4 p.m. your kiddo will eat a free child’s meal with your purchase of an entree. Johnny Reb’s is located at 4663 Long Beach Blvd. For more information call them at (562)423-7327 or visit their website: Johnny Reb’s

Tuesday Night:

George’s Greek Cafe (Lakewood ONLY).  Another Long Beach institution, another kids-eat-free night! The hummus, the gyros, the lamb chops, pretty much everything is outstanding at this Greek.  The service is also great! Kids eat a free childs meal with the purchase of an entree starting at 4 p.m. until close at the Lakewood location only. Located at 5252 Faculty Ave in Lakewood. For more information, call (562)529-5800 or visit Georges Greek Cafe.

Ruby’s Diner. Adults and kids LOVE this place. You can still get a malt, a great burger, delicious French fries and onion rings! Kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree after 4 p.m. Ruby’s Diner is located at 6405 E. Pacific Coast Hwy, and you can call them at (562) 596-1914 or visit

Denny’s What else is there to say? You know what you are going to get at Denny’s, but make sure to check out their 2,4,6 menu. The kids meals include chicken nuggets or mac n cheese. There are several locations to pick from but they all have Kids-Eat-Free Tuesday nights from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with the purchase of an adult entree. For more information and locations check out their website:

Wednesday Night:

Super Mex (Belmont Shore location ONLY). Seriously, there is a reason it’s called Super Mex. It’s because it really is super Mexican food. It’s straight forward and delicious, but you should try their green rice while you are there. It’s delicious! Kids eat a free child’s meal when you order an adult entree starting at 2 p.m. to close, in the Belmont Shore location only. 4711 E. 2nd St. Call Super Mex at (562)439.4489 or visit their website for details at

El Torito. Both of the Long Beach El Torito’s have a Kids-Eat-Free-Night on Wednesday’s. It is actually an all day thing, and starts at 11 a.m. until close. Kids choose one entree from the child’s menu for every adult entree that is purchased. For the address of the closest one, and the phone number, check out their website at

Thursday Night:

IHOP. Actually, kids eat free 7 nights a week at IHOP with the purchase of an adult entree, starting at 4 p.m. and going until 10 p.m. There are few IHOP locations in Long Beach so check out their website for more details!

Friday Night:

Cafe Rio (Lakewood).  This is kind of a cheat, because no matter when or where you are, if you ask for a child’s quesadilla with your order, you will get one gratis, at Cafe Rio. But honestly, it needs to be included on this list because if you haven’t tried their pork barbacoa, you should. It has a sweet, tangy flavor and is about as tender as you can get pulled pork without turning it to mush.  Cafe Rio is located at 5021 Lakewood Blvd. in Lakewood and their number is (562)616-6700. You can also get more information on their website:

Saturday Night:

Denny’s (2 Locations ONLY). Not all Denny’s do two Kids-Eat-Free nights, so only the savvy will know which one to hit up on which night! That is where you come in, dear reader, because you will be in the know now. From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. you can order an adult entree and get a child’s entree for free, again!  Participating Denny’s are: Denny’s  on Bellflower at 2860 N Bellflower Blvd (562)429-2000 AND Denny’s on PCH at 5570 Pacific Coast Hwy (562)498-1897

Did we miss one? Everything Long Beach would LOVE to hear readers comments if you are in-the-know!

  2. Kids eat free on Tuesdays at Ikea. There are 3 kids meals to choose from (meatballs & mashed potatoes, mac & cheese and veggies, or chicken strips & fries). Shopping and free food for my little one? Sounds good to me! 🙂
