The Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine and the Residents of Long Beach are pleased to announce the 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace & Unity Celebration musical headliners, “Lakeside”, performing live on Saturday, January 17th, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue.
Lighting up the main stage at this years Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is the singing group Lakeside, the original composers and singers of R & B “top of the charts songs”. Lakeside is one of the most requested old school bands to constantly perform in concert. The group was formed out of Dayton, Ohio. Their dynamic funky sound comes from the unique voice of the original lead singer Mark Wood, who is also the musical director. Lakeside has toured all over the world and is known as an R&B, Funk, Dance and Ballad Band.
Lakeside experienced tremendous success with hits such as Fantastic Voyage, It’s All The Way Live, Your Wish Is My Command, Your Love Is on the One, Something About That Woman, Real Love, I Want to Hold Your Hand, Raid, Say Yes, Outrageous, and so many more. Addition performance by Boxcar 7, a seven piece show band that rocks the crowd with blues, old school R&B, classic rock, swing, and a taste of funk.
This year’s Master of Ceremonies is Donaldo Reed, the founder of Rockin’ Blues Entertainment. Donaldo will be giving away all types of free gifts on the main stage, including new Fixie bicycle. In addition, there is a large dance floor to showcase your dance moves.
The Celebration is a free multi-cultural event located at King Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue. It will begin at 12:30 PM and end at 5:00 PM. The celebration is filled with great entertainment and special interest groups that focus on the teachings of Dr King. Along with a day of enlightment through music, you can visit an assortment of attractions such as the Health Pavilion; all free health screenings, such as blood pressure and diabetes testing.
