Skateboard, BMX and Video Game Competition in Long BeachSkate, Scooter, BMX, and Inline Event Set for June 23-24 in Long Beach Features Team Madd Gear USA and Professional Skateboarders Brian Sumner & Richard Jefferson

Lakewood SK8, the action sports program at First Baptist Church of Lakewood, will hold its eleventh annual skateboarding, scooter and BMX competition Saturday, June 23 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday, June 24 from 1:00 – 8:00 PM. Competitions will also be held in aggressive inline, fixed-gear bikes, and in a variety of video games.

Since 2004, over 3,000 young people have participated in program activities at Lakewood SK8.

“While our competitions are gaining considerable momentum, our organization is all about giving back to the kids and families in our community. We provide youth with a year-round program where they can develop their skills in an encouraging and caring environment,” said Justin Winford, director of Lakewood SK8.

“Additionally, parents value having a safe, positive place where they know their child will not be bullied or hurt by others. By building relationships with youth, we have the opportunity to care for them and show them in tangible ways that their lives have value.”

Each event will include multiple skill-based divisions, including a ten-and-under beginning category for younger competitors. The video game competitions will include Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mario Kart Wii, EA Skate 3, and Guitar Hero.

Specialty merchandise, including autographed items by attending professionals, will be available through special drawings or silent auction.  Professional skateboarders Richard Jefferson (Diamond Supply Co.; Krux Trucks) and Brian Sumner (Reliance Skateboards; Furnace Skate Shop; Airspeed Footwear) will make special guest appearances along with Adrean Harris, an amateur BMX rider.  Madd Gear professional scooter riders will provide a demo and be available for autograph signings.  There will be additional demos and local sponsors attending include Scooter Zone, Twisted & Vert Scooters, Dubtree, Frank’s Bicycles, SWEAR Crew, and Laser Quest Fullerton.

There is no cost to enter and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each division. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase from local supporters. Registration is required the day of the event and release waivers must be signed by a legal guardian for all minors.
