2011-11-02 · By Editor
Its been a great second season for the Long Beach Roller Derby. Lots of exciting action and close hard fought games featuring the fearless women on the old school roller skates with the fun nicknames and their new banked track. Friday November 11th is the final game of the regular season for the four team league featuring the 4th Street Retro Rollers versus the Belmont Hot Broads; two teams tied for second place in the league standings. The season is on the line for both teams as this bout determines who plays against the Bixby Rollerettes in the December Championship game and who goes home to think about their loss till next season. Locals are very fond of both of these teams and the fans are really looking forward to it. “I just know this game is going to be good”, says Colette Oriaz, aged 10, who has attended every game this season.
The Retro Rollers lead by the spunky owner of Moxi Roller Skate Shop on 4th street Estro Jen (Michelle Steilin) and her co-coach Blanche Deathereaux (Sara Scanlon) are anxious for redemption after placing dead last in the previous season. On the other side this is the inaugural season for the Hot Broads, coached by Pigeon (Shanyna Meikle) and Dangerous Shyrell Hopwood), who have showed well in both games especially considering their young team. Pre-sale tickets have been selling quickly and if the other bouts are any indication fans should reserve their seats early.
