Last Saturdays goes to back to the prom with ’70s style

Merchants on 4th Street (from Junipero to Cherry avenues) host a free evening of art and entertainment. All events start at 6 p.m. and are all-ages unless otherwise indicated. Last Saturdays highlights include:

Elan Collection (408 Saint Louis Ave. off 4th; 562-434-1895): Complimentary food and beverages at this eclectic boutique, plus original consigned art by a variety of stylistically diverse artists.

saul-whiteNew! Jade Maiden (402 Saint Louis Ave.): On display this month are the works of artist Aaron and Saul White. Aaron, born in Culver City and living in Los Angeles, captures the essence of the urban art movement. He is the son of the late abstract expressionist painter and beat poet Saul White. Jade Maiden is the newest merchant to open on 4th, and features art & accents from South-East Asia for the garden & home including hand-carved stone Buddahs, Balinese statues/fountains, recycled teak carvings and architectural furniture/accessories, and Indonesian artifacts.

Scuda (2001 E. 4th; 562-439-0101): Another of the newest shops on Retro Row (featuring vintage clothing and furnishings, jewelry and more), showcases local art & music.

Shelter Surf Shop (2148 E. 4th; 562-342-4401): Shelter Movie and Music Party! Join Shelter for their first backyard surf movie screening of the summer with the premiere of Steve Cleveland’s new film, “Fresh Fruits for Rotten Vegetables” PLUS music by Long Beach’s Light Music, Surfboards and art by CJ Nelson, and Loafer of City Fog Surfboards. Bring the gang, the beach chairs and the blankets. Refreshments will be served. 7pm-11pm; FREE

Also on Last Saturdays on 4th, be sure to check out the “Love Among The Stars: Prom 1976”! What is it, you ask? It’s 4th Street’s own version of a Seventies Prom to get you in the mood for the ultimate Prom nightmare as depicted in Stephen King’s classic movie, “Carrie”. Start the night early at Lil Devils Boutique (2218 E. 4th; 562-439-0555) for drinks, photos & fun starting at 9pm! The party then continues over at the Art Theatre (2025 E 4th; (562-438-5435), 11:00pm sharp for the movie. $2 off tickets if in prom attire! Bring your event invitation/flyer to Lil Devils on Sunday for 10% off everything in store!
