financial-reportingThe Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Long Beach by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States for its Fiscal Year 2007 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

It has been over a decade (1996) since the City of Long Beach received this award; hence, this achievement is exceptionally noteworthy.

The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

A formal presentation will be made at the April 14, 2009 City Council meeting to recognize the Department of Financial Management for this outstanding achievement.
