Deep Blue Scuba & Swim Center will host a Water Safety Expo Sunday, May 25th at The Belmont Plaza Pool. The FREE event is hosted by Deep Blue Scuba & Swim Center and sponsored by Swim For Life foundation, Care Ambulance, Long Beach Lifeguard Association, & National Drowning Prevention Alliance.
Long Beach native Jessica Hardy, who earned three medals at the 2013 FINA World Championships last summer, has been named Athlete of the Year by the Long Beach Aquatic Capital of America Foundation for the third time.
The organization announced the winners of its fifth annual Aquatic Capital Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that made the biggest impact to the Long Beach aquatics community during the previous year.
In the last ten years, the Glenn McCormick Memorial Invitational Dive Meet (GMMI) has been the Southern California welcome to the new diving season every November. Over the years, divers have traveled to Long Beach from as far as Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Texas.

After years of patching, wrangling, and making do, the City of Long Beach finally has to come to terms with the need to rebuild the aging Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. Twelve years ago, the City entertained plans to demolish the pool to build a state-of-the-art facility.

The Belmont Plaza Pool will be temporarily closed, effective immediately, due to a draft structural analysis that concludes the facility is seismically unsafe in the event of a moderate earthquake.

The City of Long Beach will celebrate local Olympians with a parade on Saturday, September 15. The parade route starts in Belmont Shore and begins at 2:00 p.m. Gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Jessica Hardy will be among the athletes present that day; and many more Long Beach Olympians have been confirming their attendance daily.

The indoor pool at Belmont Plaza Pool, 4000 Olympic Plaza, will re-open to the public with an open house on Monday, March 26. During the day the public is invited to tour the pool, use the facilities and see the changes during extended hours from 5:30 am – 2 pm and from 4 – 7 pm.
