May is National Bike Month, and many activities and special events continue taking place in Long Beach this month.

On Wednesday Mayor Bob Foster and Councilmember Suja Lowenthal, 2nd District, celebrated the completion of The Promenade, whose pedestrian-oriented transformation connects the Downtown waterfront to three blocks of vastly improved residential, commercial, retail and restaurant venues.
Bicycle enthusiasts throughout the Southland are invited to enjoy a special evening with top national bike advocate, critically acclaimed author, and principal of Alta Planning + Design Mia Birk as she stops on her “Joyride” speaking tour in Long Beach on Thursday, December 15th from 5–8 p.m.
The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency and Bikestation Long Beach invite the public to come celebrate the grand opening of a new state-of-the-art public bicycling center at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 15, at Bikestation/Promenade Square Park, 223 East 1st St.
The new Bikestation Long Beach on First Street between Pine Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard is under construction. The facility is scheduled to be complete by the end of February 2011. This unique structure will offer secure, indoor bicycle parking (free during regular business hours and 24/7 secure parking for members) a bike shop, bike rentals and professional repair services.

The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency’s (RDA) Parking Operations Division has announced free bike valet services, online parking reservations, and auto valet parking services over Grand Prix weekend. This trio of services is designed to make attending the Grand Prix more convenient, while also promoting the use of public transit and bicycle transportation.
