“Beach Streets Downtown” Opens Broadway Corridor for a Day of Walking, Cycling, Skating and Socializing

beach-streets-broadway The community is invited to kick-off the “Beach Streets Downtown” Open Street event on Saturday, March 19, at 10:00 am on Broadway in front of Bixby Park. Then, the Broadway corridor will be opened up for walking, bicycling, skating and socializing, by temporarily closing the street to vehicle traffic from Pine Avenue to Euclid Avenue until 5:00 pm.

New Playground and Fitness Zone to Open at Bixby Park Saturday

bixby-park A new playground and fitness loop at Bixby Park will open to the public at a dedication ceremony on Saturday, September 5, at 9:00 am. The event will begin near the new “Camp Bixby” play equipment at Second Street and Junipero Avenue.

Renovations to Begin at Bixby Park

bixby-park The first phase of planned renovations at Bixby Park is scheduled to begin on July 6, 2015 with the construction of a new playground featuring a 2- to 5-year-old play structure and a 5- to 12-year-old play structure with climbing components and slides, sand play areas, eight swings, a cable climber, two universal access slides, and an additional shaded seating area.

3rd Annual Dyke March and Rally May 15

The goal of a Dyke March is to increase lesbian visibility and support the rights of all women regardless of labels, including bisexual and transgender women.

Bixby Park adds Saturday Farmers Market

Farmers Market Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal announced yesterday that Local Harvest is adding Saturdays to their already successful Tuesday night farmers market at Bixby Park. The Bixby Park Farmers Market will operate from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm every Saturday, starting on the first day of spring – March 21.
