Gary DeLong represents Long Beach’s famous 3rd District. The district includes beautiful Belmont Shore, Marina Pacifica, California State University Long Beach, Recreation Park Golf Course, Bluff Park, Alamitos Bay, Colorado Lagoon, the Los Cerritos Wetlands, VA Hospital, and the Broadway Business District. Councilman DeLong is also the President & CEO of The RTP Group, Inc., a successful telecommunications management and software development company.

Chief McDonnell is a 28‐year police veteran with a history of innovative leadership and community outreach, has taken the lead as the new Chief of Police for the City of Long Beach. Chief McDonnell, one of the nation’s pre‐eminent law enforcement officials, has served as First Assistant Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, second in command of the third largest police department in the United States. Chief McDonnell has also served as Chief of Detectives and Chief of Staff, after having had citywide command of the Operations and Human Resources functions for the LAPD, where he served for more than 28 years. He has received numerous community and department awards, including the LAPD’s highest award for bravery, the Medal of Valor.

The Samples organizers are part of a small but determined group of business owners and residents who want to improve the 7th Street experience. The group envisions an 7th Street corridor with “enhanced walkablility, aesthetics, and safety with neighborhood spirit.”

The mixer will also support Luther Burbank School’s Garden of the Mind project which aims to innovate education through science and sustainability. The project is a two-year effort to restore the school’s façade and grounds to reflect its Long Beach historical significance, and the philosophy and science of Luther Burbank and world renowned botanist.
