Today, the leaders of two child-advocacy groups based in Long Beach put their support behind Megan Kerr – the candidate for the 1st District school board seat.
Dora Jacildo serves as the Executive Director of Children Today, a non-profit that serves Long Beach children and their families who are homeless or involved in the child welfare system.
The public is invited to the Committee of 300’s annual Charity Fundraiser/Holiday Party to be held on, Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at L’Opera Ristorante.
This year, the Committee of 300 is proud to support Children Today and Pathways to Independence.
The Ultimate Beach Party, presented by Alfredo’s Beach Club and a 2011 Long Beach Festival event, benefits Long Beach’s “Partners of Parks.” Both days will be filled with special events, live music from local bands and DJs, food court and beer garden, kid’s interactive fun zone, arts and crafts fair, local artist’s village and Sport Expo.
The 3rd Annual Children Today 5K/10K walk/run, benefiting the Children Today playhouse programs that provide child care and preschool for homeless kids and families, will kick off the Ultimate Beach Party at 8:30 a.m.
EverythingLongBeach.com recently spoke with Amber Ginsberg, Development Manager of Children Today, via email. They talked about the inspirations and challenges of running a nonprofit organization in Long Beach.
How long has Children Today been around?
On August 1, Long Beach Kids Connection will host the 3rd annual Taste of the Coast featuring more than 40 of Long Beach’s favorite restaurants. (See below for a list of participating restaurants.)
Guests at Taste of the Coast will enjoy live entertainment including music from Michael Ubaldini Band, Alan Glasband, Golden Sands Chorus and on-site painting by Karen Wall-Garrison.
What started out two summers ago as a group of guys swimming together in the Long Beach Yacht Club pool is quickly becoming a cultural phenomena that extends outside the pool, into the ocean and now into the local community.
Seven local swimmers, known as The Dawn Patrol, will swim the Catalina Channel this summer to raise money for local charities.

With two weeks and $1000 in their pockets, eight Long Beach volunteers made an impact on the community, each in their own way.
The 2nd Annual Taste of the Coast, benefitting Children Today and Long Beach Day Nursery, will be held on Sunday, August 2 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Belmont Veteran’s Memorial Pier.
Organized by Long Beach Kids Connection, Taste of the Coast is a Sunday afternoon family event that includes over 40 restaurants, a Beer and Wine Garden, activities for kids, and live music in beautiful Belmont Shore.
The Long Beach Area Coalition for the Homeless is sponsoring the fifth in a series of community dialogues that explore homeless issues in the City of Long Beach. What YOU Don’t See! will focus on issues surrounding mental health and homelessness.
