The City’s Bike Share program is making Long Beach a lot more livable.
“The Long Beach Bike Share program has been great for the health of our city and constituents,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “The program offers a fun way to get around the city and cuts down on motor vehicle use, which saves money and helps lower carbon emissions.”

On Friday City Manager Patrick H. West announced six appointments to key management positions in the City of Long Beach. Among the appointments are three department director positions, an Deputy Fire Chief, a Public Affairs Officer, and the Business Operations Manager for the Gas and Oil Department.

On Friday City Manager Pat West named Marie Knight as the City’s Director of the Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) Department. Ms. Knight brings 27 years of professional experience in the municipal and community sectors, and her appointment will be effective in mid-March, 2016.

Long Beach City Manager Pat West and Police Chief Robert Luna Friday announced the appointment of Commander Richard Rocchi, a 27-year veteran of the Police Department, as Deputy Chief, effective December 13, 2014.
City Manager Patrick H. West announced Tuesday the appointment of John Gross as Director of Financial Management, effective July 11, 2011. Mr. Gross is currently Director of Finance of the City of Aurora, Colorado.

The City of Long Beach has been conducting a nationwide recruitment for a permanent Financial Management Director, and that individual is expected to be named in approximately eight weeks. Given that the appointment is imminent, City Manager Patrick West announced today that over these next few weeks he will be appointing his Financial Management Bureau Managers to serve as Interim Financial Management Director on a rotating basis.
On Friday , City Manager Patrick West announced the appointment of Amy Bodek as Director of Development Services. Bodek’s new position will be effective the first week of September.
The Department of Development Services oversees the physical development and revitalization of the city through the planning process, the enforcement of building and environmental codes and through the Redevelopment Agency.

Last Wednesday, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) Fire Chief David Ellis announced to City Manager Patrick West his impending retirement by year’s ends. Chief Ellis, an almost 30-year veteran of the fire service, is responsible for approximately 550 employees and a budget of more than $90 million.
The Long Beach City Council has authorized unpaid Employee furloughs to help address a $19.2 million General Fund shortfall this year, and Long Beach City Hall will be closed on the last Friday of the month from May through September, the end of the Fiscal Year.
