This Saturday, Feb. 11, Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell will join Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell to invite neighbors out for Coffee and Conversation at Starbucks on Palo Verde & Stearns in Los Altos.

The Councilmember and the Chief will be on hand to meet with residents and discuss issues concerning safety in our neighborhoods. The event will take place at Starbucks Coffee on East Stearns Street at Palo Verde Avenue in Los Altos.

Infestations of an exotic insect, the Light Brown Apple Moth, have been found in host plants in the City of Long Beach. The insect has recently invaded California and become established in 20 counties. It is of particular concern because it can damage a wide range of crops and other plants including California’s prized cypress as well as redwoods, oaks and many other varieties commonly found in California’s urban landscaping and public parks. The list of agricultural crops it can damage include: grapes, citrus, stone fruit (peaches, plums, nectarines, cherries, apricots) and many others.

The public is invited to learn how Long Beach is helping to develop an unprecedented plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, during an open house on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Mark Twain Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St., Long Beach.

The plan is being developed by Gateway Cities Council of Governments (COG), an organization that addresses issues related to regional planning, economic development and overall quality of life in the Southeast Los Angeles County (Gateway) sub-region. The COG is working with its member cities, such as Long Beach, to develop this plan.
