One of the four Magellanic Penguin chicks born at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach has officially been named Skipper. Skipper was named after one of the main penguin characters from the upcoming DreamWorks Animation/20th Century Fox animated film Penguins of Madagascar.
In Busch’s cheeky satire of philosophy and art, a worldly old friend interrupts a culture-saturated Manhattan housewife’s nervous breakdown. With this production set in 2000, the director, Gavin Cameron-Webb aims to look back at life during that time while still bringing out the laughs in the piece.
Jordan Belfort, the real-life “Wolf of Wall Street,” will embark on a major national U.S. speaking tour beginning September 15 in Tampa, Florida arriving in Long Beach October 2 at the Long Beach Convention Center. The tour, titled “The Truth Behind His Success,” brings Belfort to American audiences, following sold-out presentations internationally from Australia to Dubai.

Seven years ago, David Stephens’ daughter Gwenith was born with a birth defect that caused her to be blind. It has been a learning experience for the father, and he continues to find ways to help his daughter, including becoming the coach of a youth baseball team for special needs children.
Summer and Music (SAM) takes to the great outdoors with their third concert of the season – Bicycle Drive-In on Saturday, August 2 from 6-10 pm, situated on a vacant lot located on Pine Avenue between 6th & 7th Streets.
Co-produced by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), the event will include live performances by Sam Outlaw and Rosie Harlow and the Tall Tale Boys, plus a screening of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom.
Beginning on Friday, June 20, the Art Theater of Long Beach will be screening the internationally acclaimed film, Ida, starring Agata Kulesza, Agata Trezbuchowska, and Dawid Ogrodnik. The first viewing begins at 1pm Friday, June 20th, 2014 and will run every two hours after, until 9pm.
Downtown Long Beach’s homegrown concert series Summer and Music (SAM), co-produced by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), marks the start of its sixth year with the expansion of series-favorite Dancin’ in the Streets on Saturday, June 28, 7-11 p.m.
A Father’s Love, A Daughter’s Eye brings together Cisco and Milah, a seasoned graphic designer and an aspiring filmmaker, for a joint showing of their artistry in common: photography. The father and daughter photographers use film and digital cameras to compose portraits, urban and high desert landscapes.
