Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) has been awarded a $553,000 grant to renovate MacArthur Park, 1321 E Anaheim St. The funding comes from the California Department of Housing and Community Development Housing-Related Parks (HRP) grant program, which creates incentives and rewards local governments for building affordable housing to fund much-needed parks in their communities.
Waste Management and The Long Beach International City Bank Marathon & Half Marathon have teamed up to help runners transform lives by repurposing their old running shoes. In honor of the event’s 30th Anniversary on October 10 through 12, Waste Management will collect shoes from marathon runners in a reuse campaign to benefit the Long Beach Rescue Mission.

Adults age 50 and over who participated in a fitness program called Strength for Living at the LifeFit Center @ The Beach at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) have experienced great health and fitness results, according to reports and testing of participants.
Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, Vice Mayor Robert Garcia, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Department of Public Works invite the public to a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Fitness Zone at 14th Street Park, between Locust Avenue and Palmer Court, on Thursday, March 27 at 2 pm.
