Bishop Senyonjo will appear in Long Beach at The Trinity Church on Thursday, November 18.

Bishop Christopher Senyonjo—a courageous spokesperson for the equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in his native Uganda—is scheduled to visit Long Beach on Thursday, November 18. The bishop will appear at Trinity Lutheran Church for a reception hosted by Greater People and the Catalyst Network of Communities as part of OutFaith.

Eric Leocadio, founder and Executive Director of the Catalyst Network says, “By creating a safe and productive environment for people who consider themselves ‘on a journey,’ we hope to elevate the conversation beyond the politics of our differences so that we can improve relations in both the LGBT and faith worlds.”

At the invitation of Integrity USA, Bishop Senyonjo toured the United States earlier this year, including a visit to the White House. This month he will be visiting sites in California to raise awareness about Uganda’s proposed “Anti-Homosexuality Bill” and the severe criminal penalties LGBT people would face in Uganda.

The Seven-Ten Swap is organized by House Party Swap n Shop, a group that hosts and promotes clothes swap parties and community exchange events in the Southern California Area.

The group’s website explains, “We love swapping – and we believe swaps are better when more people get involved. That means building a network of swappers and spreading the word to attract new swappers.”

This year’s festival theme, “Turning the Tide” brings together businesses, government and individuals, to encourage open discussion and promote awareness.

The Long Beach Green Festival will include a whole day of eco-minded activities: Educational Sustainability Classes & Workshops; Visual Arts displays; live performing arts; public discussions; interactive informational and business booths; and the Saturday Organic Farmer’s Market.

Starting at 8 a.m. there will be basic meditation instruction, followed by meditation until 9 a.m. Then there will be a brief period of work practice and social time. During this time participants can help to set up the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, and even shop at the market.

From 9:45 a.m. until about 10:45 a.m., there will be a free public talk about Zen practice given by Arthur Wayu Kennedy, one of Tenshin, Roshi’s senior students.

Those who cannot make the entire program, should feel free to attend whatever part they can. After the talk, there will be time for participants to socialize and eat lunch at the Farmer’s market or at a local restaurant.

This week, on Saturday, April 3, The Kids from A2Z will be performing at the Market. They are a youth vocal group consisting of friends from the ages of 4 to 19.  Each of the performers brings their own style of music into the group.  They started singing at a local coffee shop one year ago and the group has since grown to include 22 kids who all love to sing and perform.

The brunch will be held at the home of Catalyst founder Eric Leocadio, 2110 Mira Mar Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90815.  Participants are asked to bring a potluck entrée and either orange juice or champagne. “Sunday brunch and mimosas are always a great way to relax and meet new friends,” says Leocadio. This will be a great way of exploring how you and your friends might want to impact the community.

We incorporated in April 2006 here in Long Beach. After investing a year in 2008 for team building and organizational development, we became active and public with our current mission in January 2009.
