Gold Star Flag
Long Beach will be the first U.S. city to fly the Gold Star and Blue Star flags permanently at the City Hall Plaza to honor the service and sacrifice of our armed service members. A special ceremony to raise the two flags is scheduled for Thursday, August 15 at 11:30 am.

Today, Mayor Bob Foster and Councilmember James Johnson, 7th District, topped off the 600-foot-long Great Wall of Mulch, which is believed to be the only Mulch Wall constructed in the United States.
The City of Long Beach held a Gun Buy Back event on Saturday, June 8, 2013, collecting 168 firearms, including five assault weapons. Those who turned in guns received gift cards valued at $50, $100 or $200 depending on the type and condition of the firearm; a total value of $17,000 in gift cards was distributed.
