The Volunteer Center, South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach is kicking off its fourth year of Food For Kids, a weekend meal program feeding Title One students and their families in Long Beach and Compton area schools. With the new school year starting this month, the program will begin to feed 115 families each weekend, an increase from 85 families this past year.
The Long Beach Public Library is providing some exceptional events this April in celebration of National Library Month, a time to highlight the value of libraries and library staff and recognize the library’s historical role as the “people’s university.”
“Our libraries are the heart of the Long Beach community, with a deep commitment to our patrons’ lives, work and education,” Mayor Bob Foster said.
Junior League of Long Beach (JLLB) offers local families the chance to have fun while learning about healthy eating and exercise at the eighth annual Kids in the Kitchen. Co-sponsored by The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Healthy Active Long Beach Project, the event is free and will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Martin Luther King, Jr.
Season for Nonviolence Kick-off event takes place this Sunday with video featuring Long Beach residents.
On Sunday, January 27, youth and community leaders will join together for the official kick-off of the Season for Nonviolence 2013 (SNV13).

Councilman Dee Andrews and the Junior League of Long Beach (JLLB) invites local families to join in the fun of learning about healthy eating and exercise at the 7th Annual Kids in the Kitchen Fair. Co-sponsored by The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Healthy Active Long Beach Project, the event is free and will be held on Saturday, March 10th, from 10 a.m.
Nine award-winning films by, for and about women will be presented at LUNAFEST, a benefit film festival hosted by the Junior League of Long Beach (JLLB). The festival will take place on Sunday, November 13, from 2-5 p.m. at the Art Theater in Long Beach, 2025 East 4th Street.
